Aryna Sabalenka vs Taylor Townsend prediction

Aryna Sabalenka extended her winning streak at the US Open to 17 matches as she beat Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets to reach the round-of-16. The world number one did not face a break point, winning 6-3 6-4. The two-time defending champion will now play Taylor Townsend for a place in the quarter-finals.

Townsend continued her excellent run in New York after upsetting 15th seed Diana Shnaider. Townsend missed the opportunity to serve out the match at 5-3 in the second set but responded impressively in the decider, winning the final three games to seal a 6-2 6-7 (3) 6-3 victory. Townsend struck 39 winners and converted five of eight break points. Townsend had crushed Taylah Preston in round two after beating Roland Garros finalist Maja Chwalinska in her opener.

Townsend’s left-handed serve and willingness to attack the net gives Sabalenka a different problem, but the 28-year-old will be expected to win.
