PREDICTION
A fortnight or so ago, things were looking rosy for Tottenham. The same however cannot be said after not only an exit from the FA Cup but also seeing their 10-point gap to Chelsea cut in half. By the time this game kicks off, the margin could be as low as two and then the pressure will really be on Mauricio Pochettino’s men to deliver.
This game will be a real test to see if Tottenham can bounce back from their recent disappointment and it will also be a measure of the squad’s mettle as they look to get over the line in their bid to return to the Champions League next season.
Standing in their way is a Watford side who have not won any of their last six league matches but more importantly have not won any of their last 10 Premier League matches on the road. With Javi Gracia’s men all but safe from the threat of relegation, it looks like they are coasting to the end of their campaign.
That is something that should play into Tottenham’s hands as they need to bounce back in the best possible way. Failure to do so and serious questions will be asked. That said, they should have enough in their locker to edge a step closer to securing fourth place by earning a home win.
MEMORABLE MEETING
Last season, Tottenham looked to push Chelsea all the way in the race for the Premier League title, something that was evident when they made easy work of Watford just over 12 months ago. A sunny White Hart Lane was the venue as the hosts were in blistering form.
Dele Alli opened the scoring with a well taken goal 12 minutes before the break while Eric Dier made it two soon after. After the restart, Son Heung-min bagged a brace for himself as Mauricio Pochettino’s men cruised to a 4-0 home win, in what was one of Walter Mazzari’s last games in charge of the Hornets.
