PREDICTION
Newcastle’s impressive run of form was bought to an end by Everton on Monday night but four wins before that has secured the top-flight status of Rafael Benitez’s players for a second consecutive season.
They can afford to take their foot of the pedal for the last few matches, although you get the feeling that they will want to finish as high up the table as possible in a bid to receive additional prize money – something that can then be used in the summer transfer window.
They play host to a West Brom side that are playing with a freedom that they did not have under Alan Pardew. They have five points from their last nine on offer and interim coach Darren Moore is still unbeaten.
Unfortunately, it looks as if it could be too little too late for the Baggies as they have left themselves too much work to do. Quite simply, they must win all their remaining three matches to have any chance of staying up. It looks like their Premier League road could well end on Tyneside this weekend.
MEMORABLE MEETING
These two sides played out a highly entertaining draw back in May 2011 with St James' Park as the setting. It was certainly a game that had an air of ‘end of season’ to it as neither defence was at their best.
There were no fewer than six goals scored and although the game ended in a draw it is a result that will have felt like a defeat for the Magpies, especially as they led 3-0 at one point with victory almost assured.
Enter Somen Tchoyi. The Cameroon international scored a sensational second half hat-trick to rescue what looked like a very unlikely point for the Baggies with the third of three goals coming in the game’s dying seconds.
