HEAD-TO-HEAD

All-time meetings: Sunrisers Hyderabad W2 Chennai Super Kings W5

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

Coach: Tom Moody

Captain: Kane Williamson

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped their first game of the tournament after being torn apart by Chris Gayle and the Kings XI as after being set 193 for victory, the Sunrisers struggled to get going and eventually fell 15 runs short.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone about their tournament with minimal fuss as they are yet to have any player completely dominate with bat or ball but they are playing well as a unit with everybody contributing. In their first three matches, SRH conceded less than 150 on each occasion and were able to chase these totals easily. The game against Kings XI Punjab was the first time a team was able to break the shackles and that forced SRH to play more aggressively and they duly struggled.
  • Wriddhiman Saha has still struggled during the tournament posting a total of 57 runs from four innings so Alex Hales could come in to contention to add some firepower to the Sunrisers.

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

Coach: Stephen Fleming

Captain: MS Dhoni

  • Chennai are coming off a crushing win against Rajasthan as they hit an impressive 204 and then went on to dismantle the Royals bowling them out for just 140.
  • Chennai’s batting has been something to behold this season as on three out of four occasions they have scored more than 190 and the only time they did not was when they chased down Mumbai’s 165 in the first game of the year. Shane Watson was the hero last time out with the bat scoring 106 from just 57 balls which is the highest individual score to date.
  • Expect Chennai to go into this game unchanged with M.S Dhoni seeming to have recovered from his back injury and their batting and bowling units in good form right now.

PREDICTION

This match sees two teams with very different styles of play on show. Chennai have started this edition in blistering fashion, dominating bowling attacks each and every week while Sunrisers Hyderabad have tended to choke teams and rely on chasing small totals to grind out their victories. SRH will need to be cautious against this rampant CSK outfit and will need the bowling attack to fire and not allow CSK to post yet another large total. The question mark over SRH is if they possess the firepower to compete with Chennai if they get a hold of the Sunrisers bowlers. The CSK line up has been so effective this season and we are expecting them to fire again and extend their lead at the top of the table.
