FIFA 19 eSports – News Round-Up

In our weekly round-up here at The Stats Zone, we look at the biggest talking points currently within the FIFA eSports scene. These may range from player transfers, online/offline tournament announcements, tournament results and more.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Last weekend saw the Nordic Masters take place at Dreamhack Summer as Scandinavia’s best FIFA squads came together and battled to be crowned “Kings of the North”. After a day of competition, it was eSuperliga runners up Brondby IF who came out on top. After firstly exacting revenge on the Danish domestic champions and pre-tournament favourites FC Kobenhavn by beating them in the semi-finals, the duo of Dingo and Fredberg went on to defeat Swedish side Orebro SK in the grand final to take home the $10,000 top prize and the title of Nordic Masters champions!

ELSEWHERE

It was a big week at AFC Ajax with the 2019 Ziggo eBattle taking place. This is an open competition held by the Dutch giants that sees the winner receive a 12-month professional contract with the club. An incredible 8763 players entered the tournament and by last Thursday only one remained. Hungarian FIFA player Gabinho was the last man standing after winning a best-of-three grand final 2-1 over Jonas Ghebrehiwot. With his future secure for the next 12 months, it’s set to be an exciting FIFA 20 for him and Ajax.

Big news is potentially on the horizon for a former FIFA eWorld Cup champion. The 2017 (FIWC) winner Gorilla has been a free agent throughout the entirety of the 2019 FIFA eSports season, but signs are that could be about to change ahead of the Global Series Playoffs next month, if this tweet is anything to go by…

It’s a huge period coming up for the former world champion as he competes for the opportunity to appear at the 2019 FIFA eWorld Cup finals. A new club or eSports organisation could be just the tonic the Brit needs to find the form that saw him win his first world title.
