The Lowdown
SIMONA HALEP
- Halep reached her third Grand Slam final after coming through an epic semi-final with tournament favourite Angelique Kerber, claiming a 6-3, 4-6. 9-7 victory over her German opponent.
- A major title has eluded Halep so far in her career and she will have to get past an opponent who has had the better of their head-to-head meetings in the past.
CAROLINE WOZNIACKI
- Wozniacki is also seeking a maiden Grand Slam title and, like Halep, will be hoping it is third time lucky on Saturday having previously lost twice in a US Open final.
- As if she needed any more motivation, the Dane would claim Halep's world number one status if she was to lift the trophy which would represent a remarkable return to the top after her injury setbacks.
The Statistics

The Prediction
The world number one and two will contest the Australian Open final on Saturday and there are many similarities between the two players. Both Halep and Wozniacki have saved match points on their route to the final and are both seeking their first Grand Slam title at the third attempt. Neither have reached the final in Melbourne before so there is plenty riding on this, not to mention the world number one ranking.
Wozniacki has won her last three meetings with Halep including a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory at the season-ending WTA Championships in 2017, but Halep has arguably been the more impressive these past two weeks and for that reason is tipped to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title in three close sets.
