- Zhang Shuai beat the odds in her third-round match over former world number one Caroline Wozniacki to beat her second seeded player this tournament in straight sets.
- Zhang Shuai lost easily to Alize Cornet in the round of 16 at Eastbourne so her grass-court success at Wimbledon has come as something of a surprise in the draw.
- The 30-year-old is partnering Sam Stosur as fifth seeds in the women’s doubles and John Peers in the mixed with two matches to play on Saturday that might still be in her legs come Monday.
DAYANA YASTREMSKA
- Dayana Yastremska had an easier time of it against her third-round opponent Viktorija Golubic than her previous match with Sofia Kenin to set up a second career meeting with Zhang Shuai.
- Ukrainian Yastremska has won seven of her last ten singles matches and her three losses have come against excellent opposition in Johanna Konta, Julia Gorges and Carla Suarez Navarro.
- The teenager beat her next opponent Zhang Shuai in their only previous meeting in Hong Kong last year but this is their first meeting on a grass court.
THE PREDICTION
The winner of this match will go on to face either former world number one Simona Halep or teenage sensation Coco Gauff and so a much larger crowd awaits in the quarter-finals. Both players have far-outstripped their Wimbledon records, with 11 years separating the elder Zhang Shuai from teenager Dayana Yastremska, and this match-up could go anywhere. The Chinese’s efforts against Caroline Wozniacki were somewhat helped along by the Dane’s lapse in concentration, but she might have enough to reach her second ever Grand Slam quarter-final here.
