KAROLINA MUCHOVA

  • Karolina Muchova won her third successive match at Wimbledon in straight sets with a third-round victory over Anett Kontaveit.
  • Muchova lost the previous meeting between her and compatriot Karolina Pliskova at the Australian Open earlier this year.
  • The world number 68 is in uncharted waters in the round of 16 for the first time at any Grand Slam, which is all the more impressive as this is her first time in the main draw at Wimbledon.

KAROLINA PLISKOVA

  • Karolina Pliskova was challenged throughout by China’s Hsieh Su-wei but came through their third round match in three sets.
  • Big-hitting Pliskova hit 14 aces in her third-round match adding to the nine hit against Monica Puig and six against Zhu Lin.
  • The Czech number one is on an eight-match winning streak since losing to her twin sister Kristyna in the round of 16 at Birmingham last month.

THE PREDICTION

Karolina Muchova will meet Karolina Pliskova for the second time this year after Pliskova won in straight sets at the Australian Open back in January. Both are part of a very strong Czech contingent in the round of 16 at Wimbledon, with Barbora Strycova and sixth-seed Petra Kvitova for company, but there will be no familiarities here. Third seed Pliskova is many people’s favourite for the tournament, especially after her excellent title-winning campaign at Eastbourne, and the elder Czech should see this match through with relative ease.
