- Roberto Bautista Agut has quietly made his way to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the first time of his career having previously reached the round of 16 in 2015 and 2017.
- 31-year-old Bautista Agut beat his second seeded opponent Benoit Paire in the round of 16 and in the process won his fourth consecutive game at Wimbledon in straight sets.
- Bautista Agut has already played his next opponent Guido Pella in a quarter-final this year, winning on clay in Munich in three sets, and has also beat the Argentine at a Grand Slam at the Australian Open in 2017.
THE PREDICTION
Roberto Bautista Agut is yet to drop a set at this year’s Wimbledon while Guido Pella has been fighting tooth and nail and it will be interesting to see who is more prepared for whom when they meet in the quarter-finals. They have both played two similar opponents in their third and fourth rounds: Bautista Agut beat the robust Karen Khachanov and Benoit Paire, while Pella faced two big-serving giants in Kevin Anderson and Milos Raonic but they are yet to face players like each other. While Pella has been playing the role of David taking on Goliaths, Bautista Agut has been picking off excellent opponents with a tireless engine, and this match could throw up all sorts of twists and turns. Perhaps it may come down to fitness, with Pella spending a vastly longer time on court, but Bautista Agut’s ruthlessness thus far makes him favourite to proceed.
