GUIDO PELLA

  • Guido Pella has proved to be one of the more underrated seeds at Wimbledon so far this year after a masterclass straight-sets third round match over last year’s finalist Kevin Anderson.
  • The Argentine is seeded 26th at this tournament and reached a career-high 21 earlier this year before two bad grass-court performances at Halle and Eastbourne belied his excellence at SW19 so far.
  • The 29-year-old has surpassed his best showing at a Grand Slam by reaching the round of 16 for the first time but he showed form for beating big-servers in his five-set victory over Marin Cilic last year.

MILOS RAONIC

  • After a difficult start was settled by a tie-break, Milos Raonic went on to beat Reilly Opelka in his third successive straight-sets win at Wimbledon this year.
  • The Canadian 15th seed is through to the round of 16 for the third successive year and will be pleased to be on the other side of the draw to Roger Federer who has beaten him at Wimbledon in two of his last five appearances.
  • Raonic completely missed out the clay-court season this year in preparation for Wimbledon but he made it all the way to the semi-finals at Indian Wells and the quarter-finals at the Australian Open back in January.

THE PREDICTION

Guido Pella can clearly combat the tall hard-hitters on grass after his dismissal of last year’s runner-up Kevin Anderson on Centre Court, and his next opponent Milos Raonic should fear the Argentine’s work ethic. Pella's play-style will garner him plenty of crowd support which could affect Raonic's sometimes questionable self-confidence, the Canadian is yet to drop a set this year so losing one to Pella might shake him. Raonic will have to be pitch-perfect on serve and clinical in the tie-breaks, but he should be favoured to progress to Week 2.
