HEAD-TO-HEAD

Elina Svitolina 3-1 Petra Martic
Last meeting:
Elina Svitolina beat Petra Martic 6-1, 6-2

ELINA SVITOLINA

  • World number seven Elina Svitolina got past a difficult test in defeating Greece’s Maria Sakkari but it took a deciding set in the third round.
  • Svitolina has beaten her round of 16 opponent Petra Martic three times and notably at a Grand Slam twice with two Roland-Garros victories but this will be their first meeting on clay.
  • Ukrainian number one Svitolina has lost five of her last ten matches, including her first match at Eastbourne to Petra Martic’s doubles partner Alize Cornet.

PETRA MARTIC

  • Petra Martic won her third successive three-set match over Danielle Collins in the third round to face Elina Svitolina - the first seed she has faced.
  • Martic is also playing in the women’s doubles with partner Alize Cornet but she will be fresh to face Svitolina with the benefit of Sunday’s rest.
  • Croatian Martic has surpassed her best ever showing at Wimbledon after a third-round exit in 2013 and is one round away from emulating her quarter-final exit at Roland-Garros last month.

THE PREDICTION

World number 24 Petra Martic has been put through her paces so far at this year’s Wimbledon with all three of her matches going to a deciding set. Eighth seed Elina Svitolina has also been pushed close in her last two matches, especially to Margarita Gasparyan, so Martic could be on the wrong end of a decider this time in a tight affair.
