KAROLINA MUCHOVA

  • Karolina Muchova won a monumental three-set match with her Czech compatriot Karolina Pliskova in the round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals in her maiden appearance at Wimbledon.
  • The 22-year-old Czech had previously played in one each of the three other Grand Slams, reaching the third round of the US Open last year to set her previous record.
  • Organisers at Wimbledon may be able to move Muchova’s match towards the end of the day on Tuesday to allow her time to recover but she is sure to feel some fatigue if this match goes to three sets.

THE PREDICTION

Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina has made it to the quarter-finals as the eighth seed without ever looking convincing but she looked a lot better in her round of 16 win over Petra Martic. She will face Karolina Muchova, whom she has already beaten once this year, with the Czech also likely feeling her round of 16 match with Pliskova that took over three hours to conclude. Svitolina will need to replicate her round of 16 efforts but could take advantage to win this in a deciding set.
