ALISON RISKE
- Alison Riske emphatically put out the first seed Ashleigh Barty in her fourth consecutive three-set match at this year’s Wimbledon, praying on the Australian’s faltering first serve.
- American Riske is quite the grass-court specialist having won two grass tournaments as preparation for this year’s Wimbledon and is through to the first Grand Slam quarter-final of her career.
- The 29-year-old has lost the first set in three of her four matches at Wimbledon so far, all of which were to seeds Donna Vekic, Belinda Bencic and world number one Ashleigh Barty.
SERENA WILLIAMS
- Serena Williams swept past 30th-seed Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the 14th time in her career.
- Williams will play twice on Tuesday with her second-round mixed doubles match with Andy Murray sure to be staged later in the day after her quarter-final with fellow American Alison Riske.
- Serena Williams has never faced Alison Riske but will know she has a serious challenge on her hands after the younger American’s dismissal of world number one Ashleigh Barty.
THE PREDICTION
Alison Riske is in uncharted waters and through to the first Grand Slam quarter-final of her career to face the undisputed queen of Wimbledon, Serena Williams, for the first time. Riske’s game suits grass but despite how well she played against Ashleigh Barty, Serena Williams is improving with each performance and looking indomitable. Alison Riske is prone to losing her first set to the seeds here at Wimbledon and then fighting her way back in, but she is unlikely to get the chance to redeem herself against the seven-time champion.
