SPAIN
- Spain suffered a defeat in their opening match of the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championships as they went down to Italy despite taking an early lead in their Group A clash.
- Dani Ceballos showed his class once again as he opened the scoring in the ninth minute but Italy levelled things up before the break before taking the lead in the 64th minute and Spain’s defeat was confirmed by a third goal from the spot in the 82nd minute.
- Fabian Ruiz was withdrawn just after the break with the midfielder appearing to have suffered a knock with Mikel Merino set to deputise if he is unable to make the game with Belgium.
BELGIUM
- Belgium suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Poland in their European Under-21 Championship clash and that result leaves the Belgians with a mountain to climb in their quest to progress to the semi-finals.
- Despite taking the lead in the 16th minute, Belgium found themselves 3-1 down heading into the final ten minutes and although they pulled themselves to within a goal with just over five minutes left, the Belgians were unable to find an equaliser.
- After an underwhelming performance in which they failed to make the most of the ball in the final third, Johan Walem may look to make several changes to his side for this must-win contest
THE PREDICTION
Spain suffered defeat against Italy in their opening game of Group A and must now beat Belgium to keep their hopes alive of progressing to the semi-finals. Belgium too will need a win but after suffering a disappointing loss to Poland, their chances look slim. The Spanish were outclassed by a very potent Italian side in what was a superb contest and while Spain will need to show improvements on that opening game, they should be too good for the Belgians.
