SERBIA

  • Serbia are outsiders at the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championships but recently acquired Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic will be hoping he can be the catalyst to lead his side to at least the semi-finals.
  • Jovic is joined by Benfica’s Andrija Zivkovic to highlight the quality they have in their side but despite their inclusions, they are also missing plenty of talent such as Luka Ilic and Marko Grujic.
  • Serbia came top of their group in qualifying as they fended off their opponents in this game with the Serbians drawing 0-0 in their home game before claiming a 1-3 victory in Austria.

AUSTRIA

  • Austria will make their debut appearance in the finals of this competition but face a tricky test in their opening match as they face the side that finished ahead of them in the qualifiers.
  • The Austrians have faced some strong opposition in preparation for this tournament and secured an impressive 3-1 victory over France in their most recent game and they will hope to transfer that level of performance into the main event.
  • Five players with senior experience have been named in the Austria squad and they will be key to their country’s chances, especially with the likes of Konrad Laimer and Maxilian Wober missing.

THE PREDICTION

Serbia will be looking to end a run of ten matches without a win in this competition which stretches back to 2007. This will be their third consecutive appearance in the finals and although they are not expected to be a threat to the elite teams, they have some star quality that could see them cause some upsets. They face Austria in their opening game with their opponents making their debut in the finals and having been too good for them in their last meeting in the qualifying campaign, they can get the better of them once again.
