ITALY
- Italy came from a goal down to win their opening game at the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championships and their victory over Spain was a huge boost to their chances of making the knockout stages.
- The Spaniards are considered Italy’s biggest rivals to progressing out of Group A so the come-from-behind win leaves them in great shape ahead of a clash with Poland thanks to Federico Chiesa’s double putting his side ahead before Lorenzo Pellegrini sealed the win with a late penalty.
- Nicolo Zaniolo was on the end of a nasty collision with Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon in Italy’s opening game but he is expected to be fit for this clash with Poland after he was cleared of injury.
POLAND
- Poland secured a well-deserved victory over Belgium to get their European Under-21 Championship campaign off to a great start but face a tough task to make it back-to-back wins against Italy.
- Belgium took an early lead but Poland hit back through Szymon Zurkowski to go in level at the break before second half goals from Krystian Bielik and Sebastian Szymanski were enough despite a late consolation goal from the Belgians.
- After the impressive win in their opening game, Poland are expected to be unchanged for the vital clash with Italy which will go a long way to decide which side will be in the driving seat to progress to the semi-finals.
THE PREDICTION
Italy and Poland both won their opening game in the European Under-21 Championships and a win for either of them here will give that side a superb chance of progressing to the knockout phase. Italy will come in as favourites and rightfully so after a brilliant win over Spain and can win again here. Poland will take a lot from their win over Belgium but this poses a much tougher proposition for them and the Italians are likely to have too much as they move a step closer to the semi-finals.
