THE TEAM NEWS
GERMANY
- Reigning UEFA European Under-21 Championship title holders Germany started their tournament in fine style with a 3-1 victory over Denmark on Monday in Udine as a strong midfield performance set the platform for the victory.
- Taking the plaudits for the victors though was Augsburg striker Marco Richter who weighed in with a two-goal haul, whilst also setting up the other goal. Richter was considered by some to be a surprise name in the Germany starting line-up but he more than justified his selection.
- Germany are now unbeaten in their last 13 U21 matches, and they have won eight of their last nine and they will be full of confidence coming into this game against Serbia against whom they will fancy their chances.
SERBIA
- Serbia lost their opening fixture 2-0 to UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament debutants Austria and ended the match with ten men after Vukašin Jovanović's 75th-minute red card.
- Serbia rode their luck at times against Austria, but they were not without chances of their own and when the score was at 1-0, they should have levelled through Radonjić and they also hit the crossbar with Jović's close-range header during the second half.
- Their loss to Austria in game one means they are without a win in their last 11 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final tournament games and they will be hoping to get something out of this game.
THE PREDICTION
Germany made a statement of intent against Denmark in their bid to retain the title that they won in 2017. The Germans made light work of the Danes with a comfortable 3-1 victory and will be aiming to make it two wins from two matches against a Serbian team who were defeated by tournament debutants Austria in their opening game. Serbia missed chances at a critical time against Austria and they cannot afford to be as wasteful on this occasion. Serbian dangerman Luka Jović is sure to be well motivated to perform against Germany having played so successfully for Frankfurt, but his efforts might prove to be in vain as the Germans likely win their second game of the tournament.
