THE TEAM NEWS

GERMANY

  • Holders Germany will be looking to retain their title and have been handed a relatively good draw with them being the standout side in Group B and should have little trouble making the semi-finals.
  • The Germans have been in good form in the build-up to the competition with three wins and a draw to their name against tough opposition with two of those wins coming against Italy and England.
  • Germany still have four players in their squad who won the 2017 title whilst they have also been able to include some big names such as Alexander Nubel in goal whilst senior international Jonathan Tah is also named.

DENMARK

  • Denmark come into the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championships with aspirations of progressing to the semi-finals which would equal their most successful campaign which they last achieved in 2015.
  • They qualified for this tournament as group winners and lost just one match from their ten fixtures but have failed to carry that form into the friendlies they have played to prepare with just two wins from their seven games.
  • Victor Nelsson and Robert Skov will both appear at the tournament following their call-ups to the senior team with Skov starting against Georgia in the European qualifier whilst Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen has been named in the squad despite not being fully-fit.

THE PREDICTION

This is the third successive European Championships that Germany have met Denmark in the group stage with the Germans winning both of those contests 3-0. They will be keen to get their campaign as reigning champions off to a good start and will be confident of doing just that. The Germans have named a strong squad and have prepared well so should be able to earn a comfortable win as they look to retain their crown.
