THE STATISTICS
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Last meeting: Glamorgan beat Sussex by 6 wickets
THE TEAM NEWS
SUSSEX
Coach: Jason Gillespie
Captain: Ben Brown
- Sussex have an outside chance of reaching the play-off places now after defeats in their last two matches against Hampshire and Gloucestershire so they will need other results to go their away and a significant swing in net run rate if they are to reach the top three places.
- They lost the last two matches falling short in run chases of 356 and 336 as their weakened bowling attack struggles without Jordan and Archer who are on England duty and they may try to change things around by batting first if they win the toss here.
- They are boosted by the return of batsman Phil Salt for this match, likely to be the only change, and he will be keen to impress here after he was unused by England in the T20 match with Pakistan.
GLAMORGAN
Coach: Matthew Maynard
Captain: Chris Cooke
- Glamorgan’s recent revival came to an end on Sunday at the hands of Middlesex as they lost by five wickets, and as they sit in sixth place and out of contention for the play-offs, they have nothing but pride to play for now.
- Skipper Chris Cooke admitted they were some 30 or 40 runs short against Middlesex despite new signing Charlie Hemphrey hitting 87 from 81 balls but overseas star Marnus Labuschagne failed once again with the bat.
- Head Coach Matt Maynard has named an unchanged 13-man squad for this final match and he may be tempted to go with the same eleven as they look to carry momentum into the resumption of the County Championship.
THE PREDICTION
Sussex have it all to play for here and their first priority will be to win the game and then they may consider net run rate depending on how the matches in the South Group are going. They remain under strength but they still have enough quality in their squad to win this game. Glamorgan on the other hand are proving to be somewhat inconsistent and with nothing to play for, it seems unlikely they will be able to match Sussex’s motivation.
