- Gilles Simon bounced back from losing the first set against British hope James Ward in Monday's first round to take the third and deciding set on a tie-break in what was the Frenchman's first appearance at Queen's Club since 2016.
- Simon's best result here was a run to the semi-finals in 2015 and he was stopped that year by the opponent he finds himself facing here - Kevin Anderson. Simon pushed the South African close on that occasion but fell to a deciding-set defeat.
- The world number 38 has struggled for form in the last couple of months and he has failed to progress beyond the second round of a tournament for six consecutive events but he will hoping to perform better on the grass.
KEVIN ANDERSON
- Kevin Anderson likewise saw off a British opponent after losing the opening yet in the first round as he eliminated Cameron Norrie on his return from the injury which has kept him out of action since the Miami Open in March.

Anderson has the edge in previous meetings between the two and the fact that this contest is played on grass will certainly aid the big-serving South African, whose game is well-suited to the surface. Anderson's recent inactivity was evident in stages against James Ward in the first round and Simon will hope that his opponent still hasn't quite found his groove. The Frenchman has not been in the best of form lately though, and as his game does not match up well to Anderson's anyway, it is likely to be the South African who progresses.
