- The USA sent out a message to every other team at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they demolished Thailand to break the record for the highest ever win at a Women’s World Cup.
- The United States were ruthless as they scored ten second half goals to claim a 13-0 victory as Alex Morgan bagged five goals to match the highest number of goals scored by an individual in a Women’s World Cup game.
- After such a dominant display it is hard to envisage that the USA making any changes to their side although substitutes Mallory Pugh and Carli Lloyd both scored in the rout against Thailand and will be hoping for earn a spot in the starting XI.
CHILE
- Chile’s resistance to the Swedish onslaught in their opening Women’s World Cup match was finally broken inside the final ten minutes as they succumbed to defeat in their rain-affected Group F clash.
- Chile were standing strong but the stoppage in play in the final 20 minutes might have played a part in allowing Sweden to regroup and find a way to break their defence down as they ended up losing 2-0.
- After only seeing 31% of the ball against the Swedes, a similar number is expected against the USA as they were expected to dominant possession and that may see one of their attacking players sacrificed with Rocio Soto a candidate to come into the side.
THE PREDICTION
The United States could not have been more impressive as they destroyed Thailand in the first game of the defence of their Women’s World Cup crown. They now face Chile who suffered defeat in their first game and it is likely that they too will be attempting to simply keep the score down. Chile need to win to give themselves a realistic chance of progression but if they go toe-to-toe with the Americans it will not end well. The USA are likely to see a lot of the ball and they will be able to turn that possession into goals with the reigning champions able to make it back-to-back wins here.
