SWEDEN
- Sweden left it late but earned the win their performance deserved in their opening match at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they saw off Chile in their Group F contest and will put themselves in a great spot to progress with another win here.
- They were frustrated for long periods against the Chileans – especially after the game was temporarily halted due to a storm – who were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure but they were finally rewarded when Kosovare Asllani broke the deadlock with seven minutes remaining.
- Substitute Madelen Janogy then sealed the win with a brilliant individual goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time and she will be hoping that goal is enough to force her way into the starting XI.
THAILAND
- Thailand must quickly regroup after they collapsed in the second half against the United States and suffered the humiliation of going down to the largest ever score in a Women’s World Cup match.
- Trailing 3-0 at half-time, Thailand struggled to deal with the class of the USA and conceded ten second half goals in the 13-0 loss which will be difficult to come back from for the side ranked 34th in the world.
- Thailand have never scored a goal in the World Cup and managed just two shots on goal against the USA with coach Nuengruethai Sathongwien set to change her side for this contest to try and find that elusive goal whilst some players will need taking out of the firing line after their mentally draining loss.
THE PREDICTION
Thailand have it all to do after they were hammered by the USA and the scars from that game might be deep-rooted. They must try and respond against Sweden but after a record Women’s World Cup defeat, they might struggle to recovery mentally from that loss. Sweden outplayed Chile for large spells in their game and their late win will see them come into this game with a spring in their step with the Swedes capable of making it two wins in a row here.
