JAMAICA

  • Jamaica suffered a heavy loss in their second game at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup with Italy condemning them to their second consecutive defeat to leave their hopes of progressing hanging by a thread.
  • The Italians proved far too good for the Jamaicans as they put five goals past them without reply which leaves them bottom of Group C without a goal to their name whilst they have now conceded eight goals.
  • Qualification to the next stage is highly unlikely based on their opening two results and the only way they can progress would be a big win against Australia whilst hoping other results go their way.

AUSTRALIA

  • Australia looked to be heading out of the Women’s World Cup at the first hurdle but a brilliant come-from-behind victory over Brazil ensured their fate remains in their own hands heading into the final group match.
  • The Matildas found themselves 0-2 down in the first half but Caitlin Foord gave her side a lifeline on the stroke of half-time before a Chloe Logarzo goal and own goal by Monica completed the brilliant comeback.
  • Australia only need a draw to ensure qualification to the next round but a win would give them a chance of a higher finish in Group C with the Matildas set to name an unchanged side after their impressive fightback against Brazil.

THE PREDICTION

Australia were staring down the barrel of a shock exit from the Women’s World Cup but a superb response to going two goals down to Brazil saw them claim a vital victory and they can now build on that performance as they look to seal a place in the last 16. A draw will be enough against the scoreless and winless Jamaicans but with Australia set to field a full-strength line-up, they will fancy their chances of securing a comfortable win to advance to the knockout stages.
