THE TEAM NEWS
URUGUAY
- Uruguay are the team considered most likely to win the 2019 Copa America outside of tournament favourites and hosts Brazil and Lionel Messi-led Argentina with them having the talent to claim the title.
- They have performed inconsistently since the conclusion of the World Cup last year in which they were defeated by eventual winners France but have won their last three fixtures, scoring 10 goals and keeping clean sheets in all three games.
- Whilst Uruguay are still able to count on some of their more experienced stars, time appears to be running out for the likes of Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Godin with their international careers unlikely to continue for too much longer beyond this tournament.
ECUADOR
- Ecuador are one of the outsiders at this year’s Copa America and with expectations extremely low, they will look to go out and enjoy themselves to see if they can cause an upset or two.
- The Ecuadorians have struggled for form recently and have failed to win any of their last four matches with their last win coming back in November last year when they were narrow winners away at Panama.
- They do have the ability to cause problems for their opponents with Enner Valencia the key man but they are very reliant on him and if he can be kept quiet, his teammates will be tasked with putting in an all-round effort to try and garner results.
THE PREDICTION
Uruguay still have one of the best squads in South American football but this Copa America could represent one of the last times this current squad are all together with some of their stars reaching the back end of their international careers. They have the talent to win this tournament but will need to be clinical in front of goal but facing an Ecuador side that have struggled recently, the Uruguayans can claim the win in this Group C clash.
