THE TEAM NEWS
NICARAGUA
- Nicaragua were well beaten 4-0 by Costa Rica in their opening game of the tournament as Costa Rica put on a good show in front of their own fans and outclassed Nicaragua with a dominant performance.
- The defeat against Costa Rica means they have lost all of their seven previous CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and have scored a total of only one goal during those seven matches – a record they are desperate to improve upon.
- Preparations for this game have been disrupted by the decision to send home three players from the Gold Cup for disciplinary reasons following their opening game against Costa Rica. Forwards Carlos Chavarria and Marlon Lopez along with defender Carlos Montenegro had been axed for "serious breaches of discipline" at the team hotel while no replacements can be called up.
HAITI
- Haiti came from behind to defeat Bermuda 2-1 in their opening match of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup as they recovered from the disappointment of conceding a goal in first half stoppage time to turn around the game in the second half.
- Frantzdy Pierrot was the match-winner for Haiti as the Belgium-based striker was the scorer of both goals and Derrick Etienne gave Haiti a spark off the bench having a big hand in the build up to the game-winning goal.
- With Costa Rica to come in their final group match they know a win in this match is vital if they are to progress to the knockout stages of the tournament so that is an added incentive for them to take all three points here.
THE PREDICTION
Haiti earned a hard-fought win against Bermuda and know that a victory here would almost certainly see them into the knockout stages. The way they improved in the second half against Bermuda bodes well especially in attacking areas. Nicaragua were given a tough opening fixture against Costa Rica and were outplayed and it is unknown how much the disruption with players sent home will affect performance though it is unlikely to be positive. Withstanding that, they are still likely to be more competitive here but will just come up short as Haiti make it two wins from two matches.
