EL SALVADOR
- El Salvador had a narrow victory against Curacao in their opening match with striker Nelson Bonilla scoring the only goal in first-half stoppage time.
- They have reached the quarter-finals at three of the last four CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments and a win in this match would guarantee they make it through with a game to spare, while a draw would keep them in a strong position to finish in one of the top two spots in the group.
- The clean sheet against Curacao means that El Salvador have kept four clean sheets in their last five international matches, and one of those shut-outs was in a 2-0 win over Jamaica only three months ago.
JAMAICA
- Jamaica's historic first hosting of a Gold Cup match ended in victory with a 3-2 win over Honduras at the National Stadium in Kingston.
- Dever Orgill was the two-goal hero for Jamaica, putting them two ahead at the break and although Honduras did threaten to get back into the game, the Jamaicans managed to keep them at arm’s length.
- They know a win here would secure their place in the knockout stages with one game to spare. Jamaica have not lost a game in the group stage at the Gold Cup since 2009.
THE PREDICTION
With both teams winning their opening fixtures, they go into this encounter knowing that victory would book their place in the quarter-finals with a game to spare. They are meeting in the group stage at the Gold Cup for the third consecutive tournament with Jamaica winning 1-0 in 2015 and the teams sharing a 1-1 draw in 2017. The last time they met back in March of this year it was El Salvador who claimed a 2-0 victory in CONCACAF Nations League qualifying. Although Jamaica might have an edge when it comes to attacking prowess, the defence of El Salvador has looked a solid unit recently and with the threat of Nelson Bonilla they always have the chance of snatching a goal. Expect a very competitive match; a draw is the predicted outcome which might not be a bad result for either team’s hopes of progressing from the group.
