Alexander Shevchenko vs Stan Wawrinka prediction
Alexander Shevchenko lost in the first-round of Wimbledon for the third straight year after a defeat to Reilly Opelka in his most recent event. He struggles on the grass and will welcome a return to clay. His best result of the season occurred on this surface last month, as he reached the semi-final in Bratislava as the second seed on the Challenger Tour.
Stan Wawrinka was not handed a wildcard for the third slam of the year and has continued competing on the clay. He suffered early losses in Perugia and Sassulo after his first-round defeat in Roland Garros but he did improve in his most recent event as he made the semi-finals in Iasi. He will want to put on a strong showing in front of a home crowd.
Shevchenko beat Wawrinka in their only previous encounter in Basel two years ago. He will be re-energised after struggling on grass during the past three weeks and he’s likely to defeat the veteran and get off to a winning start in Gstaad.
