In the first qualifying round, Alashkert came through a dramatic encounter against Yelimay. Alashkert shared back-to-back 1-1 draws with the Kazakhs, with the second-leg finishing 2-2 after extra-time before they progressed on penalties.
CFR Cluj, under the management of Antonio Folha, finished third in the Romanian Liga I last season. Nicknamed The Provincial Champion, CFR Cluj were beaten in the play-off round of this competition by Hacken last season.
CFR Cluj will be expected to reach at least the play-off round in this second qualifying round but it is a tough test away from home in the first-leg and so a low-scoring encounter seems a decent bet for this one in Armenia.
