THE PREDICTION

Fittingly, the two best teams across the Men’s Curling event in Beijing will meet in what should be a riveting clash for the right to be named Olympic champions. Great Britain have won nine of their ten games played, including most recently against United States and reigning Olympic gold medallist John Shuster. Sweden meanwhile, have won eight matches and overcame Canada 5-3 in a fascinating, low scoring semi-final. Across the round-robin stage, the two teams boasted identical defensive record having both conceded just 44 points, whilst Sweden scored one point more than Great Britain. However, Bruce Mouat and his team have won their last eight games in the competition, including a narrow 7-6 win over Sweden which ended their previously unbeaten run.

A similarly thrilling battle should be on the cards between two extremely well-matched teams and it would be no surprise if this match was also decided by a single point. However, Great Britain won by a bigger margin in the semi-final, are on the back of a long winning streak and know what it takes to beat Sweden having done so in the round-robin stage. Therefore, back Mouat to lead his Great Britain teammates to victory and the gold medal over the reigning World Champions, thus gaining some personal redemption in the process after failing to medal in the Mixed Doubles Curling event in Beijing.
