Jack Jenkins: “Phar” returns from another stop-start spell with an Aldo-inspired kicking game

Jack Jenkins (14-4) is 4-2 inside the octagon and arrives off a frustrating couple of years of injuries and cancellations. The Aussie last appeared in September 2025, grinding out a unanimous decision over Ramon Taveras, having previously been submitted by Gabriel Santos at UFC 312 and stopped Herbert Burns at UFC 305. The 32-year-old is a kicker first, he mixes levels and times his entries into the pocket well. His hands aren’t the fastest when he lets them go, and at 5’7” with a 68-inch reach he is giving up some serious size in this match up.

Sean Woodson (13-2-1) stands at 6’2” with 78-inch reach, the longest reach in featherweight history. He had assembled a seven fight unbeaten run, with wins over Dennis Buzukja, Charles Jourdain, Alex Caceres and a first-round knockout of Fernando Padilla, before Dan Ige halted his streak with an early stoppage at UFC 314 in April 2025. He hasn’t fought since. Woodson works behind a long jab, feints constantly, rolls and blocks punches effectively, and throws knees up the middle on his opponent’s entry.

Ten inches of reach is an insane advantage. There’s barely a safe way for Jenkins to strike here, the low kick is the exception and even that might cost him a jab on the way in. He knows it. Jenkins has an elite kicking game to all levels and a good fight IQ to understand exactly what he has to do. He needs to feint effectively to open Woodson up, time his entries well, and play a patient game of tearing up a tall frame that sits on skinny legs. Chopping the legs will chip the movement away, and that would change the striking picture.

Jenkins is comfortable fighting on the backfoot but it would be a terrible idea in this matchup, calf kicks are hard to land while retreating and letting Woodson walk him down just means eating punches. Woodson’s knees on the entry reach the head of most featherweights, and his takedown defence should hold up early with the fresh legs under him. Don’t read too much into the Ige finish either, it was an early stoppage, though he was losing that fight on the cards regardless. Woodson wasn’t perfect against Ige, he was scared of the power, he let him inside, and didn’t stick behind his straight shots enough. His wide stance also meant he was susceptible to quite a few calf kicks, Jenkins throws far more of them and throws them harder. But the range and the boxing should still be too much. I see Woodson chipping away at range for the judges.
