Pat Sabatini: The American submission specialist looks to earn his third straight win

A UFC competitor since 2021, Pat Sabatini (20-5) has posted an impressive record of 7-2 since joining the promotion. An accomplished submission specialist with twelve victories by tap out, the 35 year old Sabatini is contentiously slightly undersized for the division but frequently has his way in the grappling department regardless, underlining his credentials on the ground. In addition to frequent victories on the grappling circuit, the American is currently riding a two fight win streak courtesy of victories over Joanderson Brito and Jonathan Pearce; Sabatini's last loss came at the heavy hands of top contender, Diego Lopes, back in 2023.

Chepe Mariscal: "Machine Gun" puts his perfect UFC record on the line for the second time this year

Undefeated since joining the promotion, it's somewhat of a shock that Chepe Mariscal (18-6, 1 NC) enters his second contest of 2025 as a slight underdog. "Machine Gun" has posted impressive wins over tough outs like Jack Jenkins, Trevor Peek, and Morgan Charriere in his UFC tenure to date, leaning on his cardio, toughness, and well-rounded skillset to out-dog his opponents across three rounds. Mariscal hasn't lost since his time on the regional circuit, and it's also worth noting that several of those defeats came against UFC level competition like Bryce Mitchell and Gregor Gillespie in the early stages of his career.

Pat Sabatini vs Chepe Mariscal prediction

This is an excellent sleeper fight for the early prelims.

Sabatini is a really solid featherweight. There's absolutely no shame in losing to Diego Lopes, while Damon Jackson was once of the craftier operators plying their trade at featherweight. Outside of those losses, he's largely had his way with his UFC opponents to date.

Unfortunately, it's not going to be enough to carry him to victory here. Sabatini is very good, but he's also proven to be slightly chinny over the course of his career. The aforementioned Jackson was not renowned for his power when he TKO'd him back in 2022, and Jamal Emmers was also able to drop Sabatini badly before tapping out to a heel hook shortly afterwards.

This state of affairs could be a recipe for disaster against a fighter of Mariscal's hustle. "Machine Gun" is a non-stop whirlwind of aggressive energy, and it's difficult to envision Sabatini simply leaning on his grappling to wet blanket him. The American is likely to score takedowns in this one, but keeping Mariscal on the mat is another matter entirely.

Make no mistake, Sabatini's grappling acumen means he could conceivably become the first fighter to submit "Machine Gun." However, history tells us that the more likely outcome is that he exhausts himself trying to hold Mariscal down and loses the cardio battle down the stretch.

The pick is Mariscal by decision.

Prediction: Chepe Mariscal to win by decision
