The 28-year-old is one of the more unpredictable performers on the WTA tour, with more troughs than peaks this season, and next opponent Caroline Garcia is certainly included in that category to make this a real coupon buster. World number 10 Garcia appears to be finding her feet again after a woeful summer but this will be a much bigger test than her straight-sets opener over Kateryna Baindl on Monday. The 29-year-old’s last two defeats have come at the hands of in-form Maria Sakkari to suggest she will take some beating and she beat Putintseva in straight sets in their first tour-level encounter back in April.
