THE PREDICTION
27-year-old Yoshihito Nishioka set a career-high ATP world ranking of 32nd last month after an excellent run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open but the Japanese number one has managed just one win since. Nishioka ended last season in the form of his career after winning his second ATP title at the Korea Open and despite some more recent wobbles this looks a suitably kind opener against an ailing Cristian Garin. Former world number 17 Garin is ranked just inside the top 100 after struggling on tour for much of the last two seasons but he grabbed a fourth win of the year on Wednesday in a straight-sets result over Daniel Elahi Galan. The Chilean is a threat on all surfaces and a top 30 player still at his best but facing Nishioka for the first time is always tricky and Garin’s confidence probably could not handle the test right now. Back Nishioka to win outright, although two should do it.
