World number 60 Zhizhen Zhang conceded just three games to Richard Gasquet on Wednesday to get a promising Shanghai Masters campaign underway. The Chinese number one comes in hot from winning Gold at the Asian Games, backing up an excellent run to the third round of the US Open where he stunned 2022 runner-up Casper Ruud in five gruelling sets. World number 31 Tomas Martin Etcheverry took Ruud to three sets before defeat at the China Open last week but the Argentine would much prefer this first encounter with Zhang was on his favoured clay, on which he reached the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros back in June. Three sets are a distinct possibility here as Etcheverry always puts up a good fight but back Zhang to ride the buzz from a partisan support to edge this in straight sets.
