THE PREDICTION

World number 71 Tereza Martincova played well to beat Irina-Camelia Begu and Magda Linette to the Cincinnati Open main draw in qualifying this weekend and she will fancy her chances in this first meeting with Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. 31-year-old Parrizas-Diaz is riding a three-match losing streak on tour after a defeat in straight sets to Serena Williams at the Canada Masters last week but she too qualified well with a comeback victory over Ajla Tomljanovic this weekend to suggest this could be a tight match indeed. Both players bring negative records into Cincinnati but Martincova has more tour experience on hardcourts, with both players favouring clay, and that could prove the defining factor. In any case this match is best left out of an accumulator but backing the Czech to win at least a set as the just-about likelier victor seems the sensible way to lean.
