World number 12 Cam Norrie made short work of ending Tung-Lin Wu’s impressive run at Indian Wells with a straight-sets result on Friday. The 27-year-old made it six wins on the spin after he claimed his fifth ATP title last month at the Rio Open, coming back from a set down to beat defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a big statement of intent. Norrie claimed the biggest title of his career at the delayed October 2021 edition and he made the quarter-finals in his defence last season before losing to eventual champion Alcaraz, with whom he has already battled six times on tour. World number 103 Taro Daniel put in a huge shift to beat an admittedly out-of-sorts Matteo Berrettini on Friday, outlasting the Italian in three sets to back-up an excellent run to the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open last week. The former world number 64 is better than his current ranking suggests, and he is capable if better than his career-high suggests, but Norrie looks the pretty solid favourite here in conditions that suit him. Daniel beat Norrie in three sets here back in 2018 but back Norrie to return the favour with a straight-sets victory.
