THE LOWDOWN

TAMARA ZIDANSEK

World number 29 Tamara Zidansek took Maria Sakkari to three sets before defeat at Adelaide 1 and then reached the semi-finals of Adelaide 2 before pulling out with fitness issues. The Slovenian produced a stunning run to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros before defeat to eventual runner-up Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, with a first WTA title won the following month in Lausanne.

ARANTXA RUS

31-year-old Arantxa Rus is only four places away from her career-high WTA world ranking of 61st she set almost a decade ago in 2012. The Dutchwoman reached the round of 16 of Roland-Garros that year to set her best showing at a major to date.

THE PREDICTION

Arantxa Rus and Tamara Zidansek have won two doubles titles together at the Palermo Open and Linz Open in 2020 but Rus was the surprise winner of their only meeting against each other with a straight-sets victory in the first round of that very same Linz Open. However, 24-year-old Zidansek’s level has risen significantly since then and despite her potential fitness issues she should have enough to come through the outright winner here.
