THE PREDICTION
World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas performed well in his first match since losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in last week’s Rotterdam Open final in a straight-sets victory over Hugo Gaston, who is always difficult to beat in his native France. 23-year-old Tsitsipas made the semi-finals of the Australian Open for a second year running last month before losing to Daniil Medvedev but his level is such that he should feel secure enough facing any player outside the top 10. World number 163 Roman Safiullin has twice come from behind to win this week in Marseille, ousting youngsters Alexei Popyrin and Tomas Machac in matches containing a total of four tiebreaks. Tsitsipas should be winning this in comfortable straight sets but a tiebreaker against Gaston does make adding one here tempting against the plucky Russian. The call is straight sets only but a one-off on straight sets and at least a tiebreak in the match would be understandable.
