World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas came back from a set down to beat Grigor Dimitrov in a tiebreak in a similar result to their epic at the Rome Masters last spring. The 24-year-old should be the better for such a tight opening fixture at the United Cup and a joyous Mixed Doubles win alongside Maria Sakkari on Friday set Greece’s stall out as a genuine title contender. It was a different story for Belgium, though, as world number 53 David Goffin lost to Dimitrov and then fell in the deciding doubles alongside three-time Grand Slam doubles champion Elise Mertens in one of the bigger shocks of the tournament. 32-year-old Goffin has gone from a dependable top 20 staple to one of the most unpredictable players on tour over the past few seasons, with some real stand-out performances in 2022 contrasting heavily with far too many limp defeats. Tsitsipas leads their head-to-head record 4-2 but the pair have not met since 2019. Back the Greek to win this in straight sets but consider adding at least a tiebreak in the match, as has happened in four of their 14 sets together so far.
