THE PREDICTION
World number 26 Sebastian Korda finished runner-up to Adrian Mannarino at the Astana Open on Tuesday but it was a crushing defeat after taking the first set. The 23-year-old has been steadily improving again after injury scuppered his incredible early form back in January, with a defeat to eventual Zhuhai champion Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals a week before Astana at least showing steady progression. Korda should have little trouble avoiding an upset on his Shanghai Masters debut but 21-year-old Yunchaokete Bu came back from a set down to stun Miomir Kecmanovic, who was forced to retire injured in the third, on Wednesday to look very competitive here. The world number 186 will enjoy playing in front of a partisan crowd on Friday and he could be worth backing to snatch at least a set considering four of Korda’s five matches saw three sets at the Astana Open. Consider that option as a one off but otherwise back Korda to reach the round of 16.
