THE PREDICTION
This will be a fascinating fourth encounter between world number five Andrey Rublev and number 33 Sebastian Korda, the latter whom has, quite surprisingly, yet to take a set from Rublev. 26-year-old Rublev beat the American in straight sets in the third round of the Australian Open last month to take a convincing 3-0 lead in their head-to-head but that is somewhat symptomatic of Korda’s current problems on tour. The 23-year-old is certainly one of the more talented players ranked outside the top 30 but he has looked the business so far this week, conceding just three games in hammerings of Pavel Kotov and Botic van de Zandschulp. Rublev won his 16th ATP title at the Hong Kong Open to kick 2024 off and he has reached at least the quarter-finals in each of his five tournaments this season, although he has failed to progress further since Hong Kong. The Russian beat Arthur Cazaux in assured fashion on Wednesday to improve on a choppy opener over Zhizhen Zhang and his record over Korda suggests he should not struggle here. Korda’s run so far may flatter to deceive, as he often can, but back Rublev to win outright for caution’s sake.
TIP: ANDREY RUBLEV TO WIN
