This is an almost immediate rematch between world number 107 Thiago Monteiro and number 78 Sebastian Baez, with the Brazilian getting the better of young Argentine prospect Baez in three sets last week at the Rio Open. 27-year-old Monteiro came back from a set down to beat Baez in Rio and he did the same against another Argentine, Federico Delbonis, on Wednesday to reach the quarter-finals of the Chile Open. 21-year-old Baez came to prominence on tour after a late entry to the ATP Next Gen Finals last year, where he shocked a lot of people by reaching the semi-finals. He played well in a four-set defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open last month and a recent victory over Cristian Garin at the Cordoba Open suggests he is only going one way up the rankings at the moment. The youngster is yet to drop a set this week and taking him to win at least one here seems the most reasonable option to avoid picking an outright winner from two very capable players.
