World number 79 Rinky Hijikata beat an out-of-sorts Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets on Tuesday to earn the sixth seed’s draw and he could enjoy a rare deep run this week in Los Cabos. The 22-year-old seems to have the right temperament for the challenging conditions here in Mexico and his run to the round of 16 at the US Open last summer if proof of what he can do on a hot hardcourt. World number 100 Aleksandar Kovacevic qualified handily this weekend before a consummate victory over Brandon Holt, giving the American some encouraging momentum.
