THE PREDICTION

21-year-old Qinwen Zheng set a new career-high WTA world ranking of seventh after reaching her maiden Grand Slam final at the Australian Open last month, where she promptly lost to Aryna Sabalenka. The Chinese was already an established rising star of the sport after an excellent 2023 saw her claim her first two titles in Parma and Zhengzhou, as well as reach the round of 16 at the US Open, but it will be fascinating to see how she reacts to that life-changing run with so much added pressure from this moment on.

World number 53 Magda Linette knows all about that pressure after she reached the semi-finals in Melbourne last season. The 32-year-old seriously struggled with the new target on her back practically all year, culminating in a rather upsetting first round exit via injury 12 months on, but she has started to look herself again on tour. A straight-sets victory over Nao Hibino was expected on Monday but it offers the Pole some useful momentum against Zheng, who has not played since the Melbourne final to make this a hugely difficult call. Back Zheng to win outright but leave this one out of an accumulator.

TIP: QINWEN ZHENG TO WIN
