The 33-year-old was stunned by eventual runner-up Diana Shnaider at the Ningbo Open this week to look a little undercooked and the effort on Sunday may adversely affect her performance in this quick turnaround against a tough opponent in Liudmila Samsonova. World number 22 Samsonova beat Alycia Parks in straight sets on Sunday to put her failed title defence in Tokyo this week behind her. The 24-year-odl won three of her four WTA titles in quick succession this time last season and she is a menace on hardcourts, set to be a much bigger challenge than her first meeting with Kvitova three years ago in Brisbane. Kvitova remains the slightest of favourites on overall ability but take Samsonova to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
