World number 70 Nuria Parrizas-Diaz took the first set of her United Cup debut against Katie Swan on Saturday but then fell in three sets as part of a 4-1 defeat for Spain. The 31-year-old struggled in the second-part of last season but she did grab an eye-catching international result at the Billie Jean King Cup, beating Yulia Putintseva in one of her two rubbers there. World number 772 Zoe Hives has been ranked as high as 140th in the world but she faces a long road back there after an extended break from the tour between 2019 and the start of last season. The 26-year-old lost to Swan in straight sets on Thursday but she should be the better for it in this second rubber and roundly buoyed on by the home fans in Sydney. Parrizas-Diaz should be winning this first encounter with the Aussie but an upset is certainly a possibility. Back the Spaniard to earn at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
