24-year-old Mikael Ymer set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 57th this week as he continues to enjoy a steady upturn in form and he took eventual Open 13 champion Hubert Hurkacz to three sets before a tight defeat in the quarter-finals last month. The Swede looks the firm favourite to come through this first meeting with Aussie up-and-comer Rinky Hijikata but the 22-year-old will be eager to make an impression after qualifying well this week to make his Masters debut. Hijikata won the Australian Open Men’s Doubles back in January alongside Jason Kubler but he has just one tour-level victory in singles so far in 2023.
