THE PREDICTION

World number 123 McCartney Kessler received a wildcard to make her main draw debut at Indian Wells off the back of some strong work on the ITF circuit last month, winning titles in the US and Mexico to suggest she is battle-hardened in similar conditions to here in the desert. The American will be backed to the hilt as an up-and-coming home talent and that support should help her through to the second round against world number 134 Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, who has struggled to build on her own Challenger success after winning an ITF event in Canberra in January. A run to the quarter-finals at the Transylvania Open last month and a strong showing in qualifying this week say the Spaniard can rise above the noise here but Kessler impressed under similar pressure to reach the second round of the Australian Open and she looks ready to make inroads at Masters level here. Back the American to win outright.

TIP: MCCARTNEY KESSLER TO WIN
