World number 71 Emil Ruusuvuori will face number 72 Maxime Cressy for the first time here in what could end up one of the sleeper hits of the round. 22-year-old Ruusuvuori beat Alexander Zverev here last season in what is by far his best showing on tour as a young prospect in a run to the round of 16 ended by eventual runner-up Jannik Sinner. 24-year-old Cressy first came to the fore at last season’s US Open when he shocked Pablo Carreno Busta in five sets with his eye-catching brand of retro serve-and-volley tennis. The American should draw a decent crowd on Wednesday after reaching a first final this season, finishing runner-up to Rafael Nadal at Melbourne 1, and reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open before a four-set defeat to Daniil Medvedev. Four defeats since that feat makes the result look tricky here but each of Cressy’s last eight matches have seen at least one tiebreak so take that option and leave the winner up to chance.
