World number 37 Maxime Cressy received a bye to the second round of Indian Wells as the 32nd seed here but he should be feeling match-ready after winning the Dubai Tennis Championships Men’s Doubles title last weekend, alongside Fabrice Martin. The 25-year-old finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner at the Montpellier Open last month before a poorer stretch of recent form but he looks the solid favourite to come through this first meeting with world number 187 Alejandro Tabilo. The Chilean qualified well this week before a coming through a winnable opener against Maximilian Marterer but this is a significant step-up in quality. Cressy’s very recent singles form does not strike total confidence, though, so backing the American to win outright looks the sensible move here.
